Explanation of Senate Group Party ticket – based on Australia First Alliance (AFA)
A Senate Group Party split ticket occurs when two or more candidates from different political parties request that their names appear together in a group, above the line, on the white Senate ballot paper.
If you vote for our alliance group above the line, any surplus votes (those in excess of the quota) will be transferred to the next preferred candidates within the group, To be elected, a candidate must win a quota, which represents a set proportion of the electorate’s votes.
For a more detailed explanation, refer to the AEC's Senate counting process here: AEC Senate Counting Process.
