Kate Mason
Advisor to the HEART Party
Kate holds an Honours Degree in Applied Science Social Ecology and has over 20 years of experience in the welfare industry.
Throughout her career and personal life, Kate has been deeply committed to human rights, advocating for the right to live a dignified life, be treated with respect, and be free from discrimination. She is passionate about fostering compassionate communities where individuals have control over their own lives.
Kate’s career in welfare ended in 2021 when COVID-19 vaccination (mRNA transfection technology) mandates were implemented within the community welfare sector. Through her work, Kate witnessed firsthand how lockdowns and coercive vaccination policies were negatively impacting the most vulnerable members of society, while also pushing more people into vulnerability. Unable to support these measures, Kate embarked on a journey of research, focusing on the larger forces shaping our future—on both a global and local scale.
Kate is now concentrating on the alarming and rapid advancements in genetic engineering (synthetic biology). The Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has proposed changes to the definition of GMOs, which could allow genetically engineered foods to be marketed without labeling them as GMOs or ensuring safety tracking. Additionally, changes to the Gene Technology Act 2000 are in motion, which are being presented as efforts to streamline industry processes by removing what are described as "barriers to innovation."
There are also plans to map the genomes of newborn babies, and discussions are underway about the possibility of genetically editing babies in utero. In the environmental sector, plans for genetically edited trees, wild species, pests, plants, and food crops are progressing, often under the guise of climate change initiatives and Net Zero goals. Within agriculture, genetic engineering is being introduced under the banner of "regenerative farming."
While these significant developments in genetic engineering are progressing rapidly, there is minimal public discourse about the ethics of these technologies and their potentially dystopian consequences. Kate is dedicated to working with the Heart Party to bring these issues into the public arena, advocating for health, environmental protection, and the safeguarding of people's rights.
